Round 2 - Report
The second round of Season 2 in the Virtual Touring Car Series (VTCS) took place at the Daytona Road Course. The drivers were ready to put their skills to the test on this unique track that combines high-speed banked sections with technical turns. The races promised excitement, especially as it transitioned from day to night, adding an extra layer of challenge for the competitors.
Qualifying saw a close battle for pole position, with Wojciech Swirydowicz securing the top spot. He set an impressive time of 01:57.3, narrowly edging out Tony Vijfschaft and David Ward, who qualified second and third respectively. The top of the grid was incredibly tight, with the top eight drivers all within half a second of each other.
Race 3
As the lights went out, the drivers roared into action, eager to establish their dominance on the track. Wojciech Swirydowicz started from pole position. However, Neil Ferrier, starting from seventh, had a lightning start and quickly began to challenge Swirydowicz for the top spot.
Ferrier's determination paid off as he managed to overtake Swirydowicz, taking the lead. Swirydowicz fought hard to reclaim the position but ultimately settled for second place.
Behind the leading duo, a fierce battle for the remaining podium positions ensued. Teusch, who started fourth, finished first on the road but was given a three-place penalty, affecting his final position. Reinhardt, starting from sixth, also received a three-place penalty, dropping from second to fifth.
Further down the field, Paul Zanettacci, Matthias Wasser, and Tim Becker fought for position, engaging in intense battles lap after lap.
As the checkered flag waved, it was Neil Ferrier who emerged victorious, overtaking Wojciech Swirydowicz to secure the win. Swirydowicz held onto second place, and Shane Brauders completed the podium in third.
Race 4
As the race began, Kurt Wiegand, starting from reverse grid pole, got off to a strong start, leading the pack. Emirhan Turan, Rene Ritter, and Matthias Wasser quickly emerged as his closest challengers. However, it was Wasser who demonstrated managed to overtake his rivals to secure the lead.
The battle for positions behind the leading trio intensified, with drivers like Paul Zanettacci, Michael Teusch, and Mikko Kuitunen engaging in fierce battles lap after lap.
Meanwhile, championship contender Wojciech Swirydowicz faced a setback with a three-place penalty, dropping him from fifth to eighth. Despite this, he pushed hard, aiming to minimize the damage to his championship campaign.
As the race progressed, penalties and retirements played a role in the final standings. Darryll Morrison, starting from seventh, received a six-place penalty but retired from the race. Damy Herber, who had shown promising pace, was also penalised dropping him to 20th.
In the end, it was Matthias Wasser who emerged victorious, crossing the finish line in first place. Emirhan Turan secured second place, while Rene Ritter completed the podium in third.
